본 연구는 노인의 주관적 고독감이 건강에 영향을 미치는 영향의 메커니즘을 이해하기 위해 고독,우울, 건강상태의 관계로 이루어진 연구모형을 수립하고 구조방정식 모형 분석을 통해 그 관계를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 수도권에 위치한 노인복지기관 이용 노인 329명을 대상으로 일대일 설문조사를 실시하고, 노인의 고독과 우울이 노인의 건강상태에 미치는 영향과 그 과정에서 우울이 수행하는역할을 살펴보았다. 자료 분석 결과, 고독, 우울, 건강상태의 구조적 관계로 이루어진 연구모형은 양호한 적합성을 보였으며 우울은 고독이 건강상태에 미치는 영향을 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 기존의 서비스가 사회적 활동의 양을 증가시키는데 치중하는 점을 지양하고 주관적 고독감과 대인관계의 질을 개선하는데 초점을 두어야 할 필요성이 있음을 시사하는 것이다. This study intended to understand the way loneliness and depression affectpsychological and physical health of older adults, and conducted a structuralequational modeling of a relationship among loneliness, depression and healthstatus of older adults. A survey was conducted on 329 individuals who wereutilizing senior welfare agencies located in Seoul and the surrounding cities. Thestudy examined the effects of loneliness and depression on their health status aswell as the role of depression in this process. The data analysis showed a goodfit of the structural model and suggested an evidence of depression fullymediating the effect of loneliness on health status. This result indicated that thecurrent focus of services on increasing quantity of social contact among olderpeople may need a paradigm shift towards improving their subjective lonelinessand quality of interpersonal relationships.
