본 연구는 결혼으로 인한 기회비용 중 경제적 손실에 주목한다. 결혼의 기회비용으로서의 경제적 손실을 분석한 연구들은 대부분 경력단절을 전후로 임금의 차이를 분석하거나 육아휴직으로 인한 임금손실분을 추정하였다. 그러나 결혼의 경제적 손실을 추정하는데 있어서, 만약 결혼을 하지 않았을 경우에 성취했을 잠재적인 성과와의 차이가 진정한 결혼이 가져오는 손실이라는 점을 고려한 연구는 찾아보기 어렵다. 본 연구는 기존 연구의 공백을 메우고자 Heckman 의 2단계 추정법을 이용하여 독립변수를 결혼으로 하고, 월 임금을 종속변수로하여 결혼의 경제적 손실모형을 추정하였다. 한국여성정책연구원의 여성가족패널 1차~5차 자료를 이용한 실증분석 결과에 의하면, 결혼여부 선택편의를 교정한 모형에서는 경제적 손실이 월 14만원 가량으로 나타났으나, 노동참가여부선택편의를 교정한 모형에서는 월 35만원으로 분석되었다. This study focuses on the opportunity cost, specifically economic loss in the labor market due to marriage. Most of the studies on the economic opportunity cost due to marriage analyze wage differences before and after career breaks or estimate wage loss due to childcare leave. Despite abundant literature on the quantitative estimation of the economic loss of marriage, it is hard to find studies that take into account the potential performance that would have been achieved if not married. To fill the gaps in the related research, this study considers the potential economic performance of woman if not married creating a quantitative estimation of the economic loss from marriage. Heckman's two-step estimation method is used for the analysis. Marriage and the monthly wage are set as the independent variable and the dependent variable, respectively. The Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families is the data source. According to the empirical analysis, the economic loss is estimated to be 140,000 Won after the modifications for the bias due to psychological and material benefits of marital status. In the model which corrects the bias due to the will of participation in the labor market, the economic loss is estimated to be 350,000 Won.
