본 연구는 부모수용과 청소년의 학교적응 간의 관계에서 자기수용의 매개효과를 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 서울과 경기지역의 중고등학생 368명(남 183명, 여 185명)을 대상으로 자기보고식 질문지법을 이용해 자료를 수집하였다. 자료는 t검증, Pearson의 적률상관분석, 구조방정식 모형, 다집단 분석을 이용해 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모수용은 청소년의 성별에 따른 차이가 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 자기수용과 학교적응은 성별에 따라 유의한 차이가 있었는데, 남학생들이 여학생들보다 자기를 더 많이 수용하고 학교적응 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부모수용은 청소년의 학교적응에 직접적인 영향을 미치기도 하고, 자기수용을 통해 학교적응에 간접적으로도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 성별에 따라 연구모형의 경로에는 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 부모가 수용적인 태도로 청소년 자녀의 존재를 존중해주면 자녀는 자기 자신에 대한 건강한 태도를 형성하게 되어 학교에 보다 잘 적응하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 부모수용과 학교적응의 관계에서 자기수용의 매개효과는 남녀 청소년 집단 모두에게 유의미하게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 청소년들의 학교적응에 부모가 자녀를 수용해주는 것과 청소년 스스로 자신의 모습을 수용하는 것이 중요함을 시사한다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parental acceptance and adolescents’ school adjustment, as mediated by self-acceptance. Self-report data were collected from 368 middle and high school students in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The data were analyzed using t-tests, Pearson’s correlations, SEM and multigroup analysis. The major findings were as follows. First, the average level of parental acceptance was not significantly different as a function of gender. Group mean comparisons showed that the average level of self-acceptance and school adjustment were higher in male students than in female students. Second, parental acceptance had an influence on adolescents’ school adjustment both directly and indirectly via self-acceptance. The mediation model was invariant across gender. Findings from this study shows that parental acceptance and self-acceptance are important factors in improving the school adjustment of adolescents.
