본 연구는 어떤 일을 하는 아버지가 자녀와 많은 시간을 함께 하는가라는 질문에서 출발하여, 영유아 자녀를 둔 아버지들이 자녀의 양육에 참여할 수 있는 기회가 종사상 지위에 따라 어떻게 차별적으로 제한되는지 분석하였다. 보육실태조사 2015년 자료를 이용한 분석 결과, 주말에는 자영업자 아버지는 상용직 아버지에 비해 아이와 보내는 시간이 유의하게 적었으며, 평일에는 상용직에 종사하는 아버지가 자영업, 고용주, 임시일용직에 비해 적은 시간을 자녀와 보낸 것으로 나타났다. 주말과 평일에 자녀와 함께 보낸 시간을 합산한 총양육시간에서는 임시일용직 종사 아버지가 다른 직종에 비해 보다 긴 시간을 자녀와 보내는 것으로 나타났으며, 소득수준과의 상호작용을 고려했을 때 자영업에 종사하는 아버지가 4분위 소득구간부터 유의하게 더 적은 시간을 보내는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 시간이라는 차원에서 종사상 지위에 따라 아버지들이 경험하는 시간의 부족의 양상이 차별적으로 형성되어있음을 제시하며, 자영업 아버지가 소득과 시간의 거래 관계를 다른 직종에 비해 강하게 가짐을 제시한다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 아버지의 양육참여를 활성화시키는데 있어서 직종 간 차이를 고려한 보다 세밀한 정책적 고려의 필요성을 제언하였다. This study compares how fathers with different job status spend time differently with their children under 5 years old. Fathers’ job status, such as full-time, part-time, self-employed, and unemployed, is thought to be critical to their allocation of time to family life. Using data from the recent Childcare Survey in Korea, self-employed fathers spend the lest time with their children during a weekend while the fathers' father working full time spend the lest time during weekdays. The fathers working part-time spend more time than fathers working full time regarding the total time spent during the week. The interaction effect between fathers’ job status and family income was statistically significant for the self-employed fathers. The self-employed fathers above 4th income quintile had a cross-over effect compare to the fathers working full time. It means that self-employed fathers experienced stronger trade-off relationship between time spent with family and time spend to earn income. The results reveal that fathers’ experience of time constraints are influenced by their labour market status. Based on the result, this study argues that we need to consider the sophisticated policy approach that may easy different time constraints among young fathers.
