일-가족 양립에 대한 사회적 필요성이 높아지고 있지만, 가족정책의 실질적 대상은 여성으로국한되어온 경향이 있다. 그러나 진정한 양성평등과 일‑가족 양립의 가치가 구현되기 위해서는 미시적인 가구내의 성분업 구조의 변화가 필요하며, 남성에 대한 육아휴직은 이를 뒷받침하는 가족정책으로 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 육아휴직을 통해 전업으로 가사와 육아를 전담하는 경험을 했거나 경험하고 있는 아버지를 대상으로, 이들이 육아휴직을 결정하고 사용하게된 과정과 육아휴직으로 변화된 그들의 삶은 어떠한 것이었는지 분석하였다. 육아블로그나인터넷 카페 등을 시작으로 연구대상을 섭외하기 시작하였고 눈덩이 표집법으로 표본을 확대시켜 8명의 육아휴직자와 2명의 육아퇴직자(육아휴직이 허용되지 않아 퇴직한 경우)를 심층면접 할 수 있었다. 심층면접 자료는 녹취되었고 주제분석으로 자료가 분석되었다. 연구결과, 육아휴직을 결정하기까지의 과정에서 4개의 주제와 13개의 하위주제, 육아휴직을 사용하며 변화된 삶의 모습에 관한 5개의 주제 및 15개의 하위주제, 그리고 육아휴직의 결과로 나타난 인식 측면에서 2개의 주제 및 8개의 하위주제가 추출되었다. 이를 통하여 육아휴직을 사용하여 가사와 육아를 전담한 아버지들은 일-가족 양립과 관련된 행위와 인식에 있어 큰 변화를 경험하였음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 질적분석 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 남성육아휴직을 활성화하는 정책수단이 필요함을 제언하였다. The study aims to analyse the decision process of parental leave use and the living experience of Korean fathers who have used or are using parental leave. 10 participants were selected through the snowball sampling method and qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews. The qualitative data are analysed by thematic analysis. The results can be sorted out as (1) 4 themes and 13 sub-themes for the analysis of the decision process of parental leave use, (2) 5 themes and 15 sub-themes for the analysis of fathers’ changes in daily living, and (3) 2 themes and 8 sub-themes for the analysis of fathers’ change in attitudes. Findings suggest that fathers who use parental eave and take up the full-time housework and childcare experience a fundamental changes in behaviours and attitudes related to the work-family balance. Based on the qualitative analysis, the study suggests policy directions for expanding fathers’ parental leave.
