본 연구는 남성과 여성을 구분하여 우울과 배우자폭력의 영향관계에서 문제음주의 매개효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 보건복지부, 한국보건사회연구원, 서울대학교에서 구축한 제8차 한국복지패널(Korea Welfare Panel) 조사자료 중 30세 이상의 남녀 4,166명을 대상으로 SPSS 20.0을 이용하여 로지스틱 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 남성과 여성 모두에서 우울은 배우자폭력에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 둘째, 남성의 우울은 문제음주에 영향을 미치지만, 여성의 우울은 문제음주에 영향이 없는 것을 확인하였다. 셋째, 남성의 문제음주는 우울과 배우자폭력을 매개하는 것을 검증하였다. 반면, 여성의 문제음주는 우울과 배우자폭력을 매개하지 않는 것을 확인 하였다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로, 남성의 우울로 인해 배우자에게 폭력을 행사할 수 있는 상황에서 문제음주의 낮춤을 통해 배우자폭력을 낮출 수 있는 몇 가지 제언을 하였다. The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effect of problemdrinking on the relationship between depression and spouse abuse by separatingman and woman. For this study, data were drawn from the 8th wave panel dataprovided at The Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and Seoul NationalUniversity. It included 4,166 persons of 30 years or more man or woman. Toanalyze the data, SPSS 20.0 and Logistic regression analysis were used. Theresults of this study were summarized as follows : (1) Depression of men andwomen were positively influenced on spouse abuse. (2) Depression of men wereinfluenced on problem drinking, but in case of women were not influenced onproblem drinking. (3) Problem drinking of men mediated between depressionand spouse abuse. On the other side, problem drinking women didn't mediatebetween depression and spouse abuse. Based on the results, some implicationswere discussed to reduce spouse abuse for men through problem drinking'sreduction.
