본 연구의 목적은 국내 발달장애인의 직업생활 문화를 이해하고자 하는 것이다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 연구자는 문화기술지 연구방법을 활용하였다. 즉, 발달장애인의 실제적인 직업생활을 이해할 수 있는 현장에서 발달장애인의 직업생활을 잘 보여줄 수 있는 장애인 당사자, 부모, 비장애인 직원을 중심으로 한 참여관찰과 심층면접을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 그 결과, 발달장애인의 직업생활 문화는 "직업생활의 접촉면", "직업생활의 표면", "직업생활의 이면" 의 3가지 영역으로 나누어 볼 수 있었다. 그리고 발달장애인 직업생활에서의 문화적 주제는 "지원자들과 함께 자립생활 준비해 나가기" 로 나타났다. 발달장애인의 "직업생활의 접촉면" 영역은 [쉽게 얻기 힘든 기회잡기]의 하위주제를 담고 있다. "직업생활의 표면" 영역은, [다양한 삶의 주제 갖기], [능력에 따라 다르게 펼쳐나가기], [지원자들과 함께 펼쳐나가기]의 하위주제를 담고 있다. "직업생활의 이면" 영역은, [주인공보다 더 역동적인 지원자], [경쟁사회에서 살아남기 위해 몸부림치기], [기다려줄 수 없는 사회에서 기다려주기], [현재보다 미래를 바라보기]의 하위주제를 담고 있다. 연구결과에 근거하여 정책과 실천, 후속연구에 대한 제언을 제시하였다. The purpose of this study is to understand the overall occupational life of people with developmental disabilities in republic of Korea. An ethnographic research method was employed for the proper means of approach. The data was collected and analyzed through participant observation and in-depth interview of persons with disabilities, parents, and non-disabled employees, who they are the core or important information providers. As a result, the occupational life of the people with developmental disabilities can be categorized into following 3 areas: ‘contact of occupational life’, ‘exterior of occupational life’, and ‘interior of occupational life’. Moreover, the cultural subject of the occupational life of the people with developmental disabilities appeared to be ‘preparing independent living with supporters’. The ‘contact of occupational life’ includes the following sub-theme: [seizing opportunities which cannot be easily obtained]. The ‘exterior of occupational life’, have following sub-themes: [having subject of diverse occupational life], [actualizing according to the level of disability], [actualizing with various supporters]. The ‘interior of occupational life’, have following sub-themes: [active supporters rather than star], [struggling for survive in competitive society], [waiting in impatient society], [vision for the future rather than the present]. Based on these research finding, suggestions for policy, practice, and further researches were provided.
