While the Internet provides a massive amount of useful information, it also tends to lead users to information of questionable quality or information on inadequate goods or services.
The importance of enhancing access to reliable and up-to-date health information on the Internet cannot be overemphasized in this highly networked world. Koreans are increasingly turning to the Internet as a source of health information (84.4% of the respondents have searched and used health information on the Internet).
In line with the e-government service strategy of Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHW), it was considered necessary to work toward narrowing the gap between the increasing potential for consumers to access health information via the Internet, and the absence of quality control of web information.
The system (HealthPark) we developed allows health information to be provided to all Koreans in the world in their Internet environments. It contains various search windows and other useful contents such as health news, health seminar schedules, and guidelines for health information use. The system is expected to function as an entry point to quality health information from leading health information providers in Korea.
