본 연구는 장애 발생 시기가 장애인의 취업에 미치는 영향을 장애수용의 매개효과를 고려하여 분석하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 제4차 장애인고용패널조사데이터(2011)를 이용하여 Baron과 Kenny(1986)의 매개효과 검증 방식에 따라 세 단계에 걸쳐 매개효과 검증이 이루어졌다. 1단계에서는 독립변수인 장애 발생 시기가 종속변수인 취업에 미치는 영향을 분석하였고, 2단계에서는 장애 발생 시기가 매개변수인 장애수용에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 3단계에서는 장애 발생 시기와 장애수용을 모두 회귀방정식에 투입한 후, 매개변수인 장애수용이 취업에 미치는 영향의 유의성을 확인하고, 매개변수 투입 후 독립변수인 장애 발생 시기가 취업에 미치는 영향이 줄어들거나 사라졌는지를 분석하였다. 1단계와 2단계 분석 결과, 장애 발생 시기가 늦을수록 취업 확률은 낮아지고, 장애 발생 시기가 늦을수록 장애수용은 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 3단계에서 장애수용은 취업 확률에 유의한 영향을 미치는데, 장애수용이 높을수록 취업 확률이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 매개변수인 장애수용 투입 후, 독립변수인 장애 발생 시기가 취업에 미치는 영향이 줄어드는 것으로 나타나 장애수용의 부분 매개효과가 검증되었다. 따라서 장애 발생 시기가 늦은 장애인일수록 장애수용을 향상시킬 수 있는 정책적 지지가 이루어져야 할 것이며, 이는 장애 발생 시기가 늦은 장애인의 취업 확률을 높일 수 있을 것이다.;The objective of this paper is to investigate the impact of disability onset on employment among workers with disabilities, taking into account the mediating effects of disability acceptance. The author adopted the approach used by Baron & Kenny (1986) to estimate three different regression equations. The data used are from the 4th Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (2011). In the first equation, the dependent variable (employment) was regressed on the independent variable (disability onset); in the second, the mediator (disability acceptance) was regressed on disability onset; and in the third equation, employment was regressed on disability onset and disability acceptance. The author found that the later the onset of disability, the lower the probability of employment. Also, later onset of disability was associated with lower disability acceptance. After controlling disability onset, disability acceptance affected employment significantly. Also, the effect of disability onset on employment was less in the 3rd equation than in the 1st equation. The findings suggest that disability acceptance has partial mediating effects on the relationship between disability onset and employment. Overall, the results point to the need for increased government support especially for people with late disability onset so that they can gain acceptance of their disability and increase the chance of their employment.
