본 연구의 목적은 선배시민대학 프로그램을 통해 선배시민으로서 사회참여와 역할인식 증진에 어떤 요인들이 영향을 미치는가를 분석하여, 노인복지프로그램 개발 및 개선방안을 모색하는 데 있다. 본 연구는 선배시민대학을 운영하는 전국의 8개 권역 가운데 하나인 서부산 권역의 선배시민대학 수료자를 대상으로 하였으며, 총 121명의 자료가 분석에 활용되었다. 본 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인구사회학적 특성에서는 남성일수록, 학력수준이 높을수록 사회참여수준이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 사회참여 영향요인과 사회참여수준 간 관련성 분석결과, 자아존중감과 지향동기가 높을수록 사회참여수준도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회참여 영향요인과 선배시민 역할인식 간 관련성 분석결과, 지역사회와 긴밀한 관계를 유지할수록, 시민의 사회공헌과 기여가 당연하다고 여길수록, 자원봉사활동을 많이 할수록, 외부활동에 적극적일수록 역할인식수준도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 추가분석으로 사회참여수준과 선배시민 역할인식 간 관련성을 분석한 결과 지역사회에 대한 관심이 높을수록, 사회문제에 대해 해결하고자 시도한 적이 많을수록, 선배시민 관련 교육 및 학습욕구가 높을수록 역할인식수준도 높은 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study is to analyze which factors affect senior citizens' social participation and the enhancement of role awareness through a senior citizen college program and to examine how to develop and improve welfare programs for the elderly. This study used data from 121 senior citizen college graduates from the western part of Busan, which is one of the 8 regions that operate senior citizen universities in the nation. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, in regards to sociodemographic characteristics, the higher the academic level, the higher the level of social participation. It was also found that the level of social participation was higher in men. Second, according to the results of the analysis of the relationship between the factors that affect social participation and social participation level, the higher the self-esteem and the motivational orientation, the higher the level of social participation. Third, the results of the analysis of the relationship of the factors that affect social participation and the recognition of senior citizens' roles showed that the closer the relationship with the community, the more social contribution of citizens are taken for granted, the more volunteer activities are done, and the more active in external activities; the higher the level of role recognition. Finally, according to the results of an additional analysis of the relationship between the level of social participation and the recognition of senior citizens' roles, the higher the interest about the community, the more trials to solve social problems, and the higher demands for education and learning related to senior citizens; the higher the level of role recognition.
