이 연구는 사회적 지지를 제공하는 관계와 중요한 일을 상의하는 관계를 중심으로 개인이 속한 연결망 특성이 우울 수준에 미치는 영향을 분석했다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 연결망을 이루는 사회적 관계를 유형별로 분석했고, 연결망 크기 이외에 연결망을 이루는 관계의 다양성과 연결망의 구조적 특성을 보여주는 연결망 밀도의 효과를 분석했다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 연결망 크기가 클수록 우울 수준이 낮게 나타났다. 다만, 연결망 크기의 비선형 효과는 상의 관계에서만 나타났다. 둘째, 사회적 지지를 제공하는 관계가 다양할수록, 우울 수준이 낮은 것으로 관찰되었다. 셋째, 중요한 일을 상의하는 연결망 밀도가 높을수록, 우울 수준이 낮은 것이 관찰되었다. 이는 사회적 자본에 관한 선행 연구에서 관계 구성원들끼리 서로 밀접한 통합형 사회적 자본이 서로 다른 사회적 영역의 구성원들과 교류하는 교량형 사회적 자본에 비해 통합이나 정서적 지지를 보다 높은 수준에서 제공한다는 연구 결과가 우울 수준에도 적용된다는 것을 보여준다. 끝으로, 연결망 밀도와 연결망 크기의 상호작용 효과는 같은 연결망 크기라도 연결망 밀도가 높을수록, 우울 수준을 낮추는 효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다. In the present study, we examined the effects of social networks for social support and discussion on depression. We analyzed two types of social networks, and we also examined the effects of relational diversity for social support network and network density for discussion network. We found, first, the size of network decreased the level of depression. We also found non-linear effect of discussion network, but we did not find such effect in social support network. Second, we found that the diversity of social relations for social support decreased the level of depression. Third, the results shows that the network density of discussion network decreased the level of depression. Finally, the interaction effect between network density and network size was negative, indicating that network density increases the effect of network size to decrease the depression level by providing a higher level of social integration to individuals.
