본 연구에서는 3-5세 연령별 누리과정 교사용 지도서에 수록된 동화에 나타난 생명존중 관련 내용을 분석하였다. 분석대상은 3-5세 연령별 누리과정 교사용 지도서이며, 그 중에서도 교육 활동 유형이 ‘동화’로 분류되어 수록된 동화, 132편이다. 분석준거는 ‘자신의 생명존중’, ‘타인의 생명존중’, ‘자연환경과 관련된 생명존중’의 3가지 하위내용범주로 이루어졌다. 분석결과, 총 81편의 동화에서 125회의 생명존중 관련 내용의 발생빈도가 나타났다. 이러한 결과에 대하여 생활주제별, 하위내용범주 및 하위내용요소별로 논의점을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 생활주제별 및 연령별 발생빈도의 차이가 현저하게 나타났다. 둘째, ‘자신의 생명존중’에서는 시대적인 흐름을 반영한 내용을 보강할 필요가 있으며, ‘타인의 생명존중’에서는 ‘공동체 의식’을 유아의 발달적 특성을 고려하여 단계적으로 제시해 주어야 할 것이다. 또한, ‘자연환경과 관련된 생명존중’에서는 ‘동․식물에 대한 사랑과 돌봄’과 ‘자연보호의 필요성 및 방법’이 비중 있게 포함되어 생명에 대한 책임의식, 환경에 대한 지식, 태도, 행동 및 의사결정력을 길러주어 유아들이 생명과 관련된 문제점을 지혜롭게 대처해 나갈 수 있도록 교육하여야 할 것이다. This study analyzed the contents related to respect for life in children’s stories included in teachers’ guidebooks of the Nuri Curriculum for 3 to 5-year-old children. The subjects of analysis were teachers’ guidebooks of the Nuri Curriculum for 3 to 5-year-old children, and specifically, 132 children’s stories that were included in the books for the educational activity “children’s story.” The analysis criteria consisted of 3 subcategories of contents. According to the results of the analysis, contents related to the respect for life occurred 125 times in 81 children’s stories. First, the occurrence frequency of contents related to the respect for life was significantly different according to life theme and age. Second, with regard to “respect for one’s own life,” contents reflecting current issues need to be reinforced, and with regard to “respect for the lives of others,” a “sense of community” needs to be cultivated at a certain stage in consideration of young children’s developmental characteristics.
