[영문]The 1965 legislation that establishedMedicare and Medicaid declared that theFederal Government would not interferein clinical medicine. Despite the originalintent, Medicare and Medicaid have hadtremendous influence on medical practice.In this article, we focus on four policy areasthat illustrate the influence of CMS (and itspredecessor agencies) on medical practice.We discuss the implications of the relationshipbetween CMS and clinical medicineand how this relationship has changed overtime. We conclude with thoughts about potentialfuture efforts at CMS.“Nothing in this title shall be construed toauthorize any Federal officer or employeeto exercise any supervision or control overthe practice of medicine or the manner inwhich medical services are provided...”(Public Law 89-97.)
