이 연구는 우리나라 병원들이 열악한 재무구조 개선을 위해 2000년대 초반부터 추진해온 다각화 전략이 경영성과에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 분석한다. 2008년부터 2012년까지 대한병원협회에서 실시한 병원표준화심사 대상 병원 중 722개 종합병원의 자료를 분석한 주요 결과는 다음과같다. 첫째, 다각화는 경영성과에 정(+)의 영향을 보였다. 이는 병원들이 추진하고 있는 다각화 전략이 병원의 재무구조 개선에 긍정적인 영향을 준다는 것을 보여준다. 둘째, 다각화유형과 경영성과의 관계는, 관련·비관련다각화 모두 경영성과에 유의하게 정(+)의 영향을 보였고, 관련다각화가 비관련다각화에 비해 경영성과에 미치는 영향이 상대적으로 높았다. 따라서 다각화 전략은 우리나라 병원이 어려운 경영여건을 개선하기 위해 필수적으로 추진해야 할 핵심적인 경영전략 중 하나이며 다각화 전략을 추진하는 과정에서 이 연구의 결과가 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대한다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of diversification strategy, started in early 2000s, to improve poor financial structure of Korean hospitals. The study utilized 722 hospitals that passed the standardization audit undertaken by the Korean Hospital Association from 2008 to 2012. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, diversification shows a positive relationship with hospital performance. Second, both related and unrelated diversification affect positively to the business performance. In addition, the effect of related-diversification is greater than unrelated diversification. Therefore, results suggests that Korean hospitals should pay attention to both when considering diversification.
