We used to call them "children out of foster care," little adults, if you will, who come out of foster care or facilities when they turn 18. They are really neither children nor adults, but somewhere in between. Thus, the new denomination "youth in preparation for independent living."
According to statistics, an estimated 2,300 "youth in preparation for indpendent living" are added nationally each year. These are youth who age out of the child protection system, including residential care facilities, group homes, and foster homes.
