Transcript
Discussions about pension reform today tend to focus on financial issues. The financing of the public pension is certainly an important issue. But as a social insurance program, the public pension is also closely linked to the labor market, where changes are remarkably fast, with technological innovations and all. New forms of work are emerging, such as platform work, that we haven’t seen in the past, and this trend will only increase in the future. So pension reform is supposed to be about more than just pension financing. Pension reform should proceed promptly, but not without an outlook into the future, not without the awareness that across-the-board adjustments should be made to life-course stages, including retirement, with the involvement of educational institutions, labor-related institutions, and our entire society.
