Narrator:

To create more stable employment conditions for women, we need to extend public childcare services―currently offered through daycare centers and kindergartens―to include elementary school children aged 8 and older.

Choi:

In fact, it is not employment-related policies and programs themselves, but rather those concerning childcare, that generally impact the employment of both young people and parents who wish to have children or are currently raising them.

In Korea today, childcare services are being extended to cover after-school programs for elementary school children. For a long time, however, there has been a gap: while childcare services for preschoolers have advanced, parents still struggle to find reliable care options for their children once they enter elementary school.

Recognizing these limitations, the “Neulbom School” program was recently launched to provide care for children after school. I think it is very important at this point to further develop this program so that parents can readily entrust their children to such services.
