If we look at the key findings of the Retirement Preparedness Survey―a 5-year survey of those aged 35 to 69, conducted between 2019 and 2024―we can see that the retirement preparedness score went up by 2.4 points over this period, from 67.5 in 2019 to 69.8 in 2024, which is just about 70 points. This shows that there’s been a slight improvement in how people are preparing for retirement.
Now, if we look a bit closer at the changes across the four categories, we can see that the biggest improvement was in financial preparedness, whose score went up by 7.5 points. As I mentioned earlier, this may mean that people have been putting more effort into getting financially ready for retirement, but it could also partly be due to the impact of inflation. On the other hand, the score for interpersonal relationships actually dropped by 2.6 points over the same period. Meanwhile, the categories of health and leisure showed an uptick, which is so slight that it’s hardly worth noting.
