Transcript:
Have you ever heard of a vignette survey?
In social research, a vignette survey is a method that presents participants with hypothetical scenarios describing a specific situation or person and collects their opinions, attitudes, and judgments. By providing realistic and detailed contexts, vignette surveys help researchers understand how respondents make decisions in particular situations and what factors influence those decisions.
In 2020, Korea introduced the Child Abuse Response Officer System―a system in which dedicated public officials respond to child abuse cases―to strengthen the nation’s responsibility for child protection. To examine these officers’ decision-making patterns and the factors influencing their decisions, KIHASA conducted a vignette survey. By presenting vignettes depicting child abuse cases to Child Abuse Response Officers, we analyzed how they made decisions regarding case acceptance, determination of abuse, and child removal. Curious about how Child Abuse Response Officers make decisions―and what factors shape those decisions―when responding to child abuse cases amid uncertainty? Find out more in KIHASA’s research report!
