KIHASA Celebrates Its 55th Anniversary
On July 7, KIHASA held its 55th Anniversary Ceremony at its Sejong Hall, where it also proclaimed the Charter for Respecting Human Rights in Management. This all-staff ceremony was combined with KIHASA’s regular meeting, ‘Durumoim,’ and included an awards presentation recognizing those who contributed most to KIHASA’s top rating in the 2024 National Research Council evaluation.
The event also featured a special lecture by Professor Kim Soo-hyun of Sejong University Graduate School of Urban Real Estate, who previously served as Chief Policy Officer in the Office of the President and as President of the Seoul Institute. His lecture, titled “The Most Influential Think Tank? Social Reflections on the Future of National Policy Research Institutes,” explored the vision and future challenges of a national policy research institute.
KIHASA was first established on July 20, 1970, as the National Family Planning Center. It later became the Korea Institute for Family Planning, the Korea Health Development Institute, and the Korea Institute for Population and Health, before being renamed in its current form in 1989. KIHASA has established itself as Korea’s premier social policy think tank, having won the ‘Top Institution Award’ for achieving the highest overall rating in research institution evaluations for the last two consecutive years.
