KIHASA Jointly Holds the 8th Forum on Measuring People's Quality of Life

KIHASA held the 8th Forum on Measuring People's Quality of Life jointly with Statistics Korea and the Korea Academy for the Quality of Life at the Daejun Statistics Center on June 29th to discuss how to measure the quality of life and how to use it in policy-making. Since 2015, the forum on meausuring people's quality of life has been a venue for governments, academia, and research institutes to share their research experience and expertise on measuring people's quality of life and using it in policy. 

Orgnanized on- and off-line, this forum was divided into two sessions: measuring the quality of life and applying it in policy, and study of Koreans' happiness.

The first session discussed the measures of the quality of life at the national and local levels and how these outcomes were used in policy-making, referring to specific policy cases. 

At the second session, KIHASA presented the major findings of its three-year research project on Koreans' happiness and quality of life and discussed what these research findings tell us about Koreans' happiness and quality of life.

In his congratulatory remarks, KIHASA president Lee Tae Soo said, "Prior to today's forum, KIHASA conducted a comparative research on happiness, covering countries in Northern Europe, Central and South America, and Asia, jointly with Seoul National University and the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences. I hope today's forum may produce outcomes that may further improve reseach on people's happiness and quality of life."

Han Hun, Head of Statistics Korea, said, "We hope that the forum will lead to follow-up research and trigger policy interest, and that the results of quality of life measurement will be directly used in the evidence-based policy process."
