■On September 26, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and KIHASA are jointly holding a forum to discuss “Social Security in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”

KIHASA and the Ministry of Health and Welfare are jointly holding an AI Welfare and Care Innovation Forum on Friday, September 26 at 10:30 am at the Brahms Hall in the Hotel President, under the theme of “Social Security in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
Held amidst increasing social interest in AI technology, this forum aims to envisage the possible changes to overall social systems that AI technology could bring about and to discuss its potential use in the field of social security and the policy challenges that might ensue.
The forum will be streamed live on KIHASA’s YouTube channel. In-person attendance requires registration, which will close once all seats are filled.
The forum will open with welcoming remarks by First Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Lee Sran and an opening address by Shin Young-seok, President of KIHASA, followed by three sessions featuring presentations by academic experts:
●Session 1:Social Security in the Era of Artificial Intelligence
●Session 2:Current Applications and Future Directions of AI Technologies
●Session 3:Support and Regulation for the Application of AI Technologies
Specifically:
●Session 1 will include presentations on “The Welfare State in the Age of AI” (Kim Jong-rip, Head of Policy Coordination, Science and Technology Policy Institute) and “Social Security Systems and the Potential of AI” (Roh Beop-rae, Professor, Pukyong National University).
●Session 2 will feature “Directions for Integrated Management and Utilization of Social Security Data” (Han Sang-pil, Director, Social Security Information Institute, Korea Social Security Information Service) and “Trends and Challenges of Digital Human Services” (Kim Yong-deuk, Professor, Sungkonghoe University).
●Session 3 will present “Introducing AI into Social Welfare: Legal and Institutional Challenges” (Kim Ye-jin, Attorney, Seoul National University School of Law) and “The Benefits, Risks, and Policy Directions of Applying AI in Social Security” (Kim Ki-tae, Research Fellow, KIHASA).
The presentations will be followed by a comprehensive panel discussion with experts from various fields, representatives from key related institutions―including KIHASA, the Korea Social Security Information Service, the Korea Central Social Services Agency, and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute―as well as participants attending on-site.
The AI Welfare and Care Innovation Forum will continue beyond this inaugural event, with additional sessions scheduled through the end of the year. Future discussions will also address the application of AI technologies in the field of care services.
Shin Young-seok, President of KIHASA, said, “Artificial intelligence has already become deeply embedded in our lives, and social security is one of the areas where this technology is spreading rapidly. Thanks to its robust digital infrastructure and administrative data systems, Korea is ideally placed for AI to play a pivotal role in closing welfare gaps and enhancing the timeliness of administrative intervention. However, as efficiency and risk intersect in the adoption of AI, it is crucial to closely examine issues such as data quality, and the transparency and fairness of algorithms.” He added, “I hope today’s discussions will help strengthen the future of our social security system and ensure human dignity and social rights in the age of artificial intelligence.”
