Women’s reproductive health is characterized by distinct transitions across the life course, most notably menarche in childhood or adolescence and menopause in middle age. This analysis draws on data from the 2025 National Survey on the Sexual and Reproductive Health of Korean Women across the Life Course. Among adolescents aged 13-18, the average age at menarche was 12.6 years, which is earlier than that reported by previous generations. Among women aged 40-64 who had experienced menopause, the average age at the last menstrual period was 50.6 years. The prevalence of reproductive morbidity was 31.2 percent among women in early adulthood and increased to 35.5 percent among middle-aged women.
More than 40 percent of women in early adulthood and middle age reported having used OB-GYN services in the past year, whereas the corresponding figures were only 14.3 percent for adolescents and 14.4 percent for women aged 65 and older. Some adolescents reported that they had not sought OB-GYN care because they felt discomfort about visiting such clinics or because they felt uncomfortable undergoing gynecological examinations. Since reproductive health presents different challenges at different stages of life, it is important that these issues are given sufficient attention and proactively addressed through appropriate use of medical services and life-course health management.
