Research findings show that the parental allowance has a modest positive effect on decisions to use time-based work-family reconciliation policies, as well as on the timing and duration of their use. However, significant disparities are observed across respondent characteristics. The policy has a relatively greater impact on women than on men and appears to work more positively for groups with higher access to time-based support policies. In contrast, its effects are very limited for individuals working in environments with low access to such policies. These findings suggest the need to reduce gender and socioeconomic disparities in the use of time-based work-family policies by increasing policy flexibility and expanding the coverage of eligible groups.
