This study employed latent profile analysis (LPA) to classify body profile participants based on their patterns of social comparison on social media and to examine the psychological and behavioral characteristics of each profile. Data were collected from 221 individuals in their 20s and 30s with prior experience in body profile photoshoots, measuring social comparison, objectified body consciousness, exercise addiction, and life satisfaction. The analysis identified three distinct latent groups: (1) the 'Social Comparison Minimization' group, characterized by low levels of social comparison, body surveillance, and body shame; (2) the 'Social Comparison Immersion' group, showing high levels across all dimensions of social comparison; and (3) the 'Enhanced Upward Assimilation' group, exhibiting high levels of both upward identification and downward contrast. Analyses examining latent profile membership as a moderator revealed that for both the "minimization" and "immersion" groups, higher levels of body surveillance were associated with lower levels of exercise addiction. In contrast, body shame significantly increased exercise addiction in the "minimization" and "upward assimilation" groups, while no significant association was found in the "immersion" group. These findings suggest that understanding and supporting body profile participants requires an approach that comprehensively considers individual differences in social comparison patterns on social media.
