Abstract

Regional health inequalities, arising from both individual behaviors and contextual environments, remain a pressing public health challenge. This study employed Social Network Analysis (SNA) on data from the 2023 Korean Community Health Survey to quantitatively examine the structural interactions among determinants of regional health inequalities. Across all 17 regions, ‘seatbelt use’, ‘lifetime alcohol consumption’, and ‘days of vigorous physical activity’ consistently demonstrated high eigenvector centrality, indicating their roles as core nodes in shaping everyday lifestyle behaviors. In addition, ‘secondhand smoke exposure’ exhibited strong associations with other health-related variables in metropolitan areas, whereas its influence was limited in non-metropolitan regions. The findings suggest prioritizing policies to reduce secondhand smoke exposure in public places, particularly in metropolitan areas.

현대 사회에서 건강은 단순히 개인의 노력이나 선택을 넘어, 거주지역과 주변 환경에 영향을 받는다. 본 연구는 2023년 지역사회건강조사 자료를 바탕으로 사회 연결망 분석(Social Network Analysis, SNA)을 적용해 지역 간 건강 격차와 관련된 핵심 요인의 구조적인 상호작용을 정량적으로 규명하고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 전국에서 ‘자동차 안전벨트 착용 여부’, ‘평생 음주 여부’, ‘격렬한 신체활동 일수’ 문항이 고유벡터 중심성 지표 상위에 공통적으로 자리해 일상적인 생활습관의 구조적 기반을 형성하는 핵심 요인들로 작용함을 확인하였다. 또한, ‘공공장소 간접흡연 경험 여부’ 문항은 수도권･광역시권 지역에서 다른 문항들과 복합적으로 연결된 반면, 그 외 지역에서는 네트워크 내 영향력이 제한적이었다. 이에 본 연구는 수도권･광역시권 지역 내 공공장소 간접흡연을 완화할 수 있는 정책적 방향성을 제시하였다.
