This study sought to demonstrate the reproductive health-related experiences and the work environment of female sales workers in duty-free shops. We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional survey in 2018 among saleswomen in duty-free shops (N=568). The study found that 40.5% of sales workers reported being unable to change sanitary pads at work during the past six months. Among participants who had been pregnant while employed in duty-free shops, 9.3% had experienced a miscarriage. Among workers with at least one child, 50.5% reported not being able to take their children to the hospital when needed in the past year. Moreover, we sought to investigate workplace environments that may be considered relevant to the reproductive health-related experiences. It was found that 65.0% of the workers experienced limited access to restrooms within the past week, and 60.0% of the workers experienced prolonged standing regardless of the availability of chairs. Regarding work schedule control, within the last six months, 41.2% of workers reported that their personal days off were rescheduled to working days, and 31.3% reported having to work unexpectedly on their scheduled days off. This study found that saleswomen in Korean duty-free shops have experiences and workplace environments that are unfavorable to their reproductive health. Further research is necessary to examine the association between the work environment and the reproductive health of female sales workers in duty-free shops.
본 연구는 면세점 여성 판매 노동자의 재생산 건강 관련 경험과 근무 환경을 탐구하고자 2018년 전국 면세점 여성 판매원을 대상으로 진행된 설문조사에 참여한 568명의 응답을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 40.5%의 참여자는 지난 6개월 동안 근무 중 생리대를 교체하지 못한 경험을 한 것으로 나타났다. 면세점 근무 중 임신 경험이 있는 참여자 중 9.3%는 유산을 경험한 적이 있으며, 자녀가 있는 참여자의 50.5%는 지난 1년 동안 필요할 때 자녀를 병원에 데려가지 못한 경험이 있다고 응답하였다. 더 나아가, 본 연구에서는 재생산 건강 관련 경험과 관련하여 고려될 수 있는 근무 환경을 조사하였다. 참여자의 65.0%는 지난 1주일 동안 필요할 때 화장실에 가지 못하는 경험을 하였으며, 참여자의 60.0%는 매장 내 의자 유무에 관계없이 의자를 사용하지 못한 채 장시간 서서 근무한 것으로 확인되었다. 근무 일정 조절과 관련하여서는, 지난 6개월 동안 참여자의 41.2%가 스케줄을 짤 때 개인 휴무일이 근무일로 반납된 경험이 있었으며 31.3%는 예정된 휴무일에 갑자기 근무한 경험이 있었다. 본 연구는 국내 면세점의 여성 판매 노동자가 직면한 열악한 재생산 건강 관련 경험과 근무 환경을 확인하였으며 향후 근무 환경과 재생산 건강 사이의 연관성을 확인하는 연구가 필요하다.
