This study aims to identify potential types of social exclusion experienced by young adults living alone and the factors that determine them. We analyzed data from 5,355 young adults aged 19-34 living alone, using the 2022 Youth Life Survey. Employing latent class analysis (LCA), we categorized social exclusion among these young adult households into three types: (1) employment, housing, and economic exclusion, (2) multiple exclusion, and (3) partial health and housing exclusion. For each type, the key determinants identified were gender, education level, region of residence, disposable income, and personal debt. These findings suggest that the social exclusion among young adults living alone is multidimensional, with interrelated effects including employment and economic insecurity, housing vulnerability, poor health, and social isolation. This study aims to provide policy and practical implications for addressing the multidimensional nature of social exclusion among young adults living alone.
This study conducts an integrative literature review to identify the determinants of mental health among youth experiencing double precarity, a group characterized by the intersection of asset deficit and labor instability. A total of 54 key studies published between January 2010 and November 2025 were selected and analyzed following PRISMA guidelines. Data were sourced from major databases including RISS, DBpia, KISS, and Google Scholar. The analysis applied Whittemore and Knafl’s integrative review methodology, incorporating recent research trends that reflect the deepening context of asset inequality and social isolation in the post-pandemic era. The results indicate that, first, for youth with a fragile asset base, debt functions not merely as a financial burden but as a core mechanism of indebted labor, which restricts labor choices and enforces the immediate generation of cash flow. Second, this debt-driven compulsory labor exacerbates specific physiological damage, such as chronic fatigue and physical exhaustion, by inducing sleep deprivation and depleting cognitive resources. This study identifies a specific pathway of embodiment where these factors lead to a collapse in mental health, including depression and suicidal ideation. In conclusion, this study redefines the youth crisis not as an individual failure of adaptation, but as a structural pathology resulting from dual exclusion in both asset and labor markets. Accordingly, the study proposes policy alternatives focused on the restoration of time sovereignty through repayment deferrals and the establishment of an integrated support system linking finance and mental health.
